We are dedicated to supporting individuals and their families from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds to confidently navigate life in Australia. Whether you're new to Australia or have been here for years, understanding how to access essential services can be challenging especially when language or cultural differences are barriers.
At Humane Support Services we only employ culturally responsive support workers and always try to match our clients with workers who share their language or cultural background, regardless, we prioritise cultural competency by ensuring our support workers have a thorough understanding of each client’s cultural values, traditions, and needs.
All staff have all undertaken some form of training in cultural competency and awareness. We can enlist the support of interpreters when needed (including Auslan), translate important documents into preferred languages, and help clients navigate systems like Centrelink, healthcare, and the NDIS using their preferred language.
We understand the importance of cultural connection and community therefore we aim to support client participation in cultural events, places of worship, or ethnic community groups. Respect for cultural practices around food, clothing, gender roles, and family dynamics is central to the way we provide care, and we do this, for example, by preparing culturally appropriate meals or when sourcing groceries, by adjusting routines and personal care to respect modesty or privacy preferences, and by respecting religious observances.
Our team acknowledge the potential impact of migration, displacement, and trauma on individuals, and delivers trauma-informed, culturally responsive support to meet each person's unique needs.
Our Support Services
Education Support
We help parents enrol their children in school, understand the Australian education system, communicate with teachers, and access homework or language support services.
Centrelink Assistance
Whether you need help applying for payments, understanding your rights, or responding to Centrelink letters, we guide you through every step, explaining things in simple terms and in your preferred language whenever possible.
NDIS Navigation
The National Disability Insurance Scheme can be complex. We assist individuals and families in applying for NDIS, understanding their plans, and finding the right service providers that meet their cultural and individual needs.
Employment Support
From writing a resume to applying for jobs or understanding your workplace rights, we provide direction and connect you with employment agencies and training programs that support CALD jobseekers.
Mental Health & Wellbeing
Mental health is just as important as physical health. We help you access culturally appropriate counselling, community mental health services, and support groups in a way that respects your background and beliefs.
Community Connections
We also assist people in finding local community organisations, language classes, legal help, housing support, and more whatever you need to feel included and empowered in your community.
